Presbyterian Women
Presbyterian Women (PW) is a church-wide organization whose membership is open to all women of the PC (USA) who choose to participate in or be supportive of the organization in any way. PW intentionally seeks the membership of women from all racial ethnic groups so that the organization reflects a vision of the whole church as a community of mutual interdependence in which diversity contributes to wholeness.
PW gives strong support to the mission of the PC (USA) and determines its own leadership, program and budget.
PW is organized at all levels of the PC (USA)—in congregations, presbyteries and synods as well as General Assembly. This connectional system allows ideas and information to continually flow back and forth to strengthen the work of PW and the ministry of the PC (USA).
PW Purpose
Forgiven and freed by God in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves:
- to nurture our faith through prayer and Bible study,
- to support the mission of the church worldwide,
- to work for justice and peace, and
- to build an inclusive, caring community of women that strengthens the Presbyterian Church (USA) and witnesses to the promise of God’s kingdom.
Celebration of Creative Ministries
Two special offerings are taken each year. The Birthday Offering, received in the spring, supports up to five predetermined projects; in the fall the Thank Offering (including Health Ministries) is received and is used for a number of small projects. At least 40 percent of the Thank Offering is used to support Health Ministries.
PW Mission Opportunities support “hands-on” national and overseas projects.
Celebration of Christian Community
PW encourages support of Church Women United, the Fellowship of the Least Coin and denominational programs such as peacemaking and hunger.
PW of Redstone Presbytery 2005 Missions
On April 5, 2005 at the annual spring gathering meeting, the PW of our Presbytery donated health kits for tsunami victims. These kits consisted of a hand towel, washcloth, comb, metal nail file or nail clipper, bar of soap, toothbrush and paste and band-aids. Sealed in zippered plastic bags, these kits have been sent to Aceh, Indonesia. To date over 40,000 kits have been donated.
Another mission of PW of Redstone Presbytery is the NETWORKERS also known as “Mosquito Nets for Mothers”. This is a mission designed to sew mosquito nets in this malaria prevention program.
Support is encouraged in making other “Gifts of the Heart” kits. In addition to the health kits, hope-in-a-box kits, school kits, baby kits and clean-up buckets are all projects of the local PW of Redstone Presbytery.
