Delmont Area Seniors, Inc.

Delmont Area Seniors, Inc. was founded in April 2004.  Church member and businesswoman, Ella S. Lapcevic found the need for this organization within the community of Delmont.

She formed a Board of Directors, worked with community businesses and founded the corporation.  The corporation is a nonprofit benefit corporation that is not organized for private gain of any person.  The purpose of this “senior” group is to develop and direct recreational and educational programs for adults 50 years of age and over.  Through these programs seniors may cultivate new skills, establish friendships and be assisted in every possible way to live useful and happy lives.

Ella asked the session of Delmont Presbyterian Church to assist her in this mission to the community.  It was approved that the church would support her in this cause and provide the necessary housing for this monthly event.

Held every fourth Thursday of each month, the seniors enjoy a delicious lunch; have activities; entertainment; participate in wellness and teaching workshops; and fellowship.  The senior’s cost is $3.00.  The church is handicapped accessible for those in need and covers the insurance for the group.  A group of DPC members (known as “Ella’s Angels”) assist each month.

The “Delmont Senior Luncheon” is open to any independent adult 50 years or older from Delmont or neighboring communities.  Ella appreciates reservations in advance to provide adequate food and supplies.  Sign ups are available in all of the local churches or by calling Ella at 724-468-8543.

A long-range plan of the corporation is to secure land to build a facility that would include housing for interested seniors and a recreational area.  Ella and the Board of the Directors have been actively working on achieving this goal with the Westmoreland County Housing Authority, the Delmont Council and local legislation.

DPC supports this outreach mission project in our community.  Members of the congregation; Community committees, such as Christmas in Salem Crossroads and The Apple and Arts; and other generous donators help support this mission financially.
