February 2012

Dear Parents,

Welcome February, 2012.   As always, this is another busy month.  Please check your calendar closely and often so you don’t miss any of our planned events.

The Two’s color of the month is pink and hearts are their shapes.  Themes include Nursery Rhymes, Valentine’s Day, and Dental Care.  Pink day is February 13th, wear something pink!

Valentine Parties will be held on Monday, February 13th and Tuesday, February 14th.  There is a current class list attached to this letter to assist in preparing your valentines.  Please print the name of the recipient on the outside so the children will recognize their own name.  It will also be good practice for the Pre-K children (and the Nursery Classes if they are interested) to sign their own name.  Please bring the valentines to school to be mailed in our special mailboxes anytime between now and the party.  Treat sign up sheets will be posted outside the classrooms soon.

During the Pre-K party, there will be a speaker for the Parents.  They are invited to talk to Mrs. Barbara Ufner, Elementary Guidance Counselor from the Greensburg Salem School District, about “Getting Ready for Kindergarten.”  She will be able to answer your questions about kindergarten readiness no matter which school district your child will attend.  If you have questions about your child’s readiness and are considering a repeat year, please see a teacher.  Pre-K parents, please try to attend.  Parents of Nursery students or of Two year olds are also welcome to attend.  This discussion may help you make the best decision on where to place your child in next year’s preschool program.

In observance of President’s Day, there will be no school on Monday, February 20th.

Pre-K Only: The children will be learning their home address.  Please send in a stamped business-sized (long) envelope addressed to the child’s parent(s) to be used for a special project on or before February 8th.

On Monday evening, February 6th, at 7 PM, a representative from the Blackburn Center Against Domestic & Sexual Violence (located in Greensburg) will preview the child assault program to be presented to the children in February.  This program concerns child sexual assault.  This is a topic you may feel will never affect your child, however, it is serious and it is not a scary program.  It is tastefully presented using a puppet.  From previous experience, we know some children will want to talk about this program later to parents.  You will be prepared by attending this advance parent’s session.  We strongly suggest you take the time to be here if you have not heard this program before.  As parents, it is something we all need to hear.  The program will then be presented to the Pre-K classes on Wednesday, February 8th and to the Nursery classes on Thursday, February 9th.

Remember, if Greensburg Salem School District is closed, there will be no school.  If there is a delay, we operate on our regular schedule.

Registration for the next school year is continuing and classes are filling up.  Please return your 2012-2013 registrations and continue to spread the word- thank you.

If at any time during the year, you would like to discuss anything with the teachers, please ask.  Teachers are always available to have “mini-conferences” before or after school.  Formal conferences will be held for Pre-K parents in March.

“COME GROW WITH US”

The Delmont Nursery School has been growing and learning with children for over 30 years. The curriculum encompasses open education concepts with learning activities designed to meet the developmental needs of two, three and four year olds. The recognition of each child’s uniqueness is our first consideration. We believe that preschool education exerts a profound influence on the development of each child.

ABOUT OUR PROGRAM

Our program incorporates large and small motor development, reading and math readiness and a variety of activities in art, music, and physical education, as well as personal safety and a daily nutritious snack.

All classes have special visitors, such as local firefighters, police officers, paramedics, dentists, librarians, storytellers, naturalists and many parents who want to share a career or talent. All classes have holiday parties and special events.

Occasional fieldtrips are added to our learning experiences. Pre-kindergarten children visit Schramm’s Farm, Fatur’s Foodland, Metzgar Elementary School to visit Kindergarten class, Delmont Public Library and other places when the opportunity becomes available.

It is our goal to help your child grow in all ways: physically, mentally, socially and emotionally. This education can be best accomplished through a mutual partnership between home and school.
