New this year, the Christian Education committee has selected We Believe curriculum for preschool through middle school students.  We Believe is published by the Congregational Ministries Publishing Company and is developed by the PC (USA).  The class participants will develop a common understanding of Reformed theology, how Presbyterians understand the Word of God and apply that understanding in their daily lives.  Every facet of We Believe begins with the Bible and relates to the message of Jesus Christ.

The Senior high and College class will learn church history, starting with the Resurrection and working to the present.  Any interested adult is also welcomed.

The Christian Education Committee has also developed learning objectives for each age group to insure that the participants are gaining the Bible and religious knowledge of the PC (USA).

Adult Christian Education: Also held on Sunday mornings at 9:45-10:45 am in the conference room next to the sanctuary. The teacher is Wes Perkins.

This class uses The Present Word curriculum.  The Present Word curriculum seeks to facilitate mastery of Bible content, understanding of the Bible in relation to life experiences, and a greater awareness of God’s self-disclosure, especially God’s redeeming love as revealed in Jesus Christ.  This class is currently studying the Biblical Book of Acts.

Other Christian Education Opportunities at DPC

Vacation Bible School

VBS is held in the evening for one week during the summer.  DPC participates with other churches within the community for this event.  Classes are available for children of nursery age through fifth grade.  Summer 2005 VBS was held at DPC.  The staff chose the curriculum, Under Construction: A Habitat for Humanity Vacation Bible School.

This Christian education resource uses a construction metaphor to help children learn about community.  At the conclusion of the week the children donated $552.32 to the Central Westmoreland Habitat for Humanity.

Grill and Fill

A new study group was formed during the summer of 2005 at DPC.  This group met on Wednesday evenings at 6:30. The purpose was to grill an evening meal together and then be filled by the Holy Spirit.  Beginning with dinner and followed with Bible study, participants enjoyed weekly fellowship throughout the summer. This year the book of Revelation was read, studied and discussed.

Lenten Small Group Studies

For years, DPC has enjoyed weekly Lenten soup dinners together. Programs and worship have been a part of these weekly events.  For the past three years during Lent, Rev. David L. Perry and volunteering leaders have led small groups.  These groups read, studied and discussed   Seeking the Kingdom by Richard J. Foster, The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren and A Violent Grace by Michael Card.
